WHATCHA is operated by CTRL Gaming Inc., based in British Columbia, Canada ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information WHATCHA collects when you use the app at whatchawatchin.fun, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Account information
- Email address and a securely hashed password if you sign up with email.
- If you continue with Google, we receive your email address and the basic profile details Google shares with sign-in (such as your name and Google profile image URL). These are stored with your sign-in record; WHATCHA does not display them.
- Sign-in records such as account creation and last sign-in times.
Profile
- Username you choose.
- Profile picture, if you upload one. It is cropped and compressed on your device before upload.
- Country/region and the streaming services you select.
Movie activity
- Movies you save to your watchlist, mark as already seen, hide, or dismiss as not right now, identified by their TMDB movie ID, with timestamps.
- Optional 1–5 star ratings for movies you've seen.
Support messages
- If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use it to reply.
Friends
- Friend requests you send or receive and accepted friendships.
On your device
- Your sign-in session is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in.
- Your current Discover session and last search are kept in your browser's session storage and cleared when you close the tab.
We do not use advertising networks, sell your information, or use third-party analytics or tracking tools in the app.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- To show movies available on your services in your region, and to remember your watchlist, history, ratings and hidden movies.
- To let friends find you by username and see your profile picture.
- To run the app, fix problems and keep it secure.
- To answer your support and privacy requests.
What friends and other members can see
- Any signed-in member can find you by username and see your profile picture.
- Accepted friends can see movies you've saved, movies you've seen, and your ratings.
- Your email, region, streaming services, hidden movies and "not right now" choices are never shown to other members.
Services that process data
- Lovable Cloud (built on Supabase) hosts the app, our database, sign-in and file storage, where all the information above is stored.
- Google handles sign-in if you choose "Continue with Google", under Google's own privacy policy.
- TMDB (The Movie Database) provides movie information, images and streaming availability (supplied to TMDB by JustWatch). Our servers request movie data using movie IDs and your region only; no account details are sent. Posters and logos load directly from TMDB's image servers, which receive standard request information such as your IP address.
Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and request times) to operate and secure the service.
Retention
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, the personal information associated with it is deleted or de-identified, except where we need to keep certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution or similar legitimate purposes. Deleted information may remain for a limited time in our service providers' backups and technical logs before it is permanently removed.
Security
Your information is stored with our hosting provider and protected by access rules so members can only read and change what they are allowed to. Profile pictures are stored privately and are only available to signed-in members. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account anytime in Profile → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your sign-in record, username, profile picture, region, services, watchlist, history, ratings, hidden movies, and every friend request and friendship involving you. Other members' own data is not affected.
Your choices
- Change your region and services anytime in Watching Preferences.
- Change or remove your profile picture, and remove ratings or movie activity, at any time.
- Decline requests or remove friends at any time.
- Contact us to ask about, access or correct your information, or to raise a privacy concern. Depending on where you live, including under Canadian privacy law, you may have rights to access and correct your personal information and to withdraw consent. You may also contact the privacy regulator where you live.
Children
WHATCHA is only for people who are at least 16 years old. Everyone creating an account must confirm they are 16 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you believe someone under 16 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We'll update this page and its "Last updated" date when this policy changes.
